Top Ten Tuesday #32

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Underrated Authors or Books in 'X' Genre

I'm almost positive that I will have a hard time choosing ten books/authors from one genre that aren't already well known so I'm going to cheat a little and name a few from different genres & age groups.

These will all be books and/or authors that I personally have not seen anyone else talk about, blog about, etc. but absolutely loved.

Fantasy

Winter Rose and The Changling Sea by Patricia A. McKillip
She writes beautifully colorful fantasy novels, all of which I would suggest reading. I've read quite a few and adored them all very much.

A Fistful of Sky and the Red Heart of Memories series
I would describe these as light fantasy with modern characters in this world that have a 'touch of magic' to them.

Children's

The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald
This one probably isn't so underrated since it's a children's classic and was even adapted into a cartoon film but it's one that I never see/hear anyone mention and I've absolutely adored it since my mother gave me a copy at a very young age.

Children's / Middle Grade

The Whispering Mountain by Joan Aiken
This is a sort of prequel to the 'Wolves of Willoughby Chase' series that is perhaps not so underrated but I have yet to see anyone mention 'The Whispering Mountain'.

Middle Grade

The Books of Beginning Trilogy by John Stephens
I've read 'The Emerald Atlas' and 'The Fire Chronicle' and am impatiently waiting for 'The Black Reckoning'!

Young Adult

The Looking Glass Wars Trilogy by Frank Beddor
It's been years since I read these but I remember them being a really fun retelling of Alice in Wonderland.

Historical Fiction

The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman
My grandmother let me borrow this book during a family vacation years ago and I absolutely loved it. It might be one of the main reasons why I love historical fiction.

The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent
This was about the Salem Witch Trials.

------

So that is at least 10 books/series and 8 authors that I feel are pretty underrated.
Have you read any of these books or other books by these authors?
Please leave a link to your Top Ten Tuesday so I can check out your underrated books and/or authors!

    1. That seriously makes me happy that someone else out there has had the privilege to enjoy Patricia A. McKillip's books! I haven't read one in a few years but I think they are fantastic!

    1. A few other similar books to 'The Heretic's Daughter' in the historical fiction 'witch' theme are 'Susannah Morrow' by Megan Chance, 'The Third Witch' by Rebecca Reisert, and 'Daughters of the Witching Hill' by Mary Sharrat! I really enjoyed all of them! I had a hard time choosing between the 4 for this post!
