The Sunday Post #73 - Watercolor Spacescapes

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer
It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things you received, share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead, and more.

Another uneventful week (at home anyway). It's been raining every afternoon and is hot hot hot! Yesterday it was up to 102 degrees before noon!
As usual, there's a lot of crappy things going on in the US right now  and while I am trying to speak out against racism and hatred in our country, it is quite overwhelming, so I've been trying to meditate more and the best way for me to zone out and put the stress behind me is to paint or draw or just create things. So I've been painting bookmarks.
Here's one I made for myself!

It reminds me of this blog's early days when the header was a spacescape!

NEW TO MY SHELVES

I made a trip to the thrift store yesterday and found Carve the Mark for 50 cents! I know there's a lot of controversy around this book and I honestly didn't have any interest in reading it but the book itself is quite gorgeous so I couldn't pass it up. (Apologies for the crappy photo!)
I also received my August OwlCrate but I'm going to wait to do an unboxing. I may finally do a sub box review for this one!
I did receive a couple of books that I haven't taken pictures of yet so I'll try to remember to post them next week.

WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED
I reviewed some Back to School items for National Geographic Kids, shared my Can't Wait Wednesday for the week, signed up for the Bout of Books 20 Read-a-thon that starts Monday, and reviewed middle grade fantasy, The Princess and the Page by Christina Farley

RECENTLY READ
Nothing because I'm a slow reader these days and I spent most of my free time painting.

CURRENTLY READING
I'm honestly having such a hard time with The Handmaid's Tale. The content is infuriating.

  1. I loved my books last week, and so far, I'm enjoying this week's, too. Seven Husbands has reeled me right into the story, which I enjoy.

    Your bookmark is lovely...

I hate how things are going here, too; I wish 2016 had turned out differently!

Have a great week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  2. Hurray for uneventful! It has been hot here too, but thankfully the rain seems to have subsided. Awesome bookmail! I had a hard time with The Handmaid's Tale also. I found it boring. :/ Thankfully the show was amazing! Have a great week :D

  3. Oh my gosh, that's really hot! I hope it will cool down for you!
I loved the Handmaid's Tale, because it made me think. It made me furious. And I was completely engrossed in the unfairness of it all. At the same time, the story is truly chilling, because I could see something like that story actually happening.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading!

  4. Spacescapes are awesome, love the bookmark! And I hear you on the political climate- who would have thought in 2017 we'd still have these issues?

102 before noon? Yikes! Hope it cools down for ya. It's been a bit milder here and to be honest it's nice.

Love that cover of The Red Sun! and enjoy the Owlcrate- those are so cool.

  6. the Handmaid's tale was one of the most challenging books I have ever read. I was so uncomfortable and mad. Ugh! But, its such a powerful book. So I both hated and loved it.
Hopefully you are able to have a good week despite our country falling apart. I think we all want to find a way to speak out but feel voiceless.

  7. I enjoy uneventful weeks but always think I missed something. LOL Great haul of books and quite the bargain for Carve The Mark. I find a lot of physical books at thrift shops and used book stores and always feel so lucky! Enjoy and have a fun week.

  9. When you look back to how united everyone in the US was after 9/11 it makes me sad to see how thinks are now with all the racial tensions and the hate between those who love and hate Trump. Add in the misery over terrorism, fear over nuclear war and the world is in a right mess. It's depressing. I DNFed the Handmaid's Tale-I just didn't enjoy it!
