I remember in 2nd or 3rd grade, I was in the library and I overheard a parent's heated conversation with our librarian about Goosebumps books and how the book her child had read caused him to have nightmares. My librarian refused to remove the books from the shelves and I took 3 of them home that afternoon. I'd say that is what got me reading R.L. Stine and it was a children's horror binge phase for me. I read just about every single R.L. Stine book I could get my hands on.
I'd stay up on New Year's Eve and read 5-10 of them in a row. I really don't know why I liked them so much. Looking back, they were all very simple, quick reads with that creepy twist that I always liked.
