The Sunday Post #63 - Audiobooks

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer
It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things you received, share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead, and more.

I've finally decided to take the plunge and start listening to audiobooks. I've had so little time to pick up a book lately but could easily be listening while working in the garden or doing any menial daily task. I'm honestly not sure why I didn't bother sooner other than that I didn't have the proper device for it. I'm using Overdrive through my library but it turns out that the few audiobooks they have are not my cup of tea. I'm starting out with their only middle-grade read (there's no YA or fantasy at all). Perhaps I will splurge on an Audible account sooner or later.

WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED
I haven't caught up with reviews yet but I did post my April/May Wrap Up and my June TBR.

RECENTLY READ

CURRENTLY READING

I'm half way through Dragonfly in Amber, almost done with The Falconer, just started the audiobook for The Wild Robot, and just started A Conjuring Of Light because I love this series and couldn't help but dig right in when it came in from a library hold.

Have a lovely week!

  1. Oo I love listening to audiobooks! Let me suggest you look up Hoopla-- it's like Overdrive and most libraries have it; it offers a different selection of audiobooks/other media. I mostly use Overdrive but there is a audiobook series that I love that Overdrive doesn't carry but Hoopla does.

  2. Audiobooks have never really appealed to me but I may give them a go one day! I have A Court of Wings and Ruin and can't wait to read it. Have a good week!

  3. I'm not sure where you are, but you could look into joining a larger library in your area. I pay $20/yr for a library outside of my residency, but it is joined with a much larger system and the ebook/audiobook selection is huge. It's worth it for me. You should be able to browse other libraries' collections on Overdrive to help you decide if any are worth joining.

  5. Overdrive is kinda cool. I tried audiobooks a few years ago and had trouble concentrating- I would get distracted and then have to go back lol- but if I could solve that problem I would get a lot more reading (er, listening) done!

    Have a great week!

  7. I started listening to audibles a while ago and find it fun. I ca listen while doing housework, yard work, or just kicking back in the pool. So many books are offered as audibles too. I even read and listen to the same book sometimes to make it interesting:)

  8. I enjoy listening to audiobooks when I'm doing things that don't take much mental attention: washing dishes, doing laundry, walking, driving (not in heavy traffic or unfamiliar situations, though.) Recently I've been listening to Hidden Figures.

Since your library doesn't have many audiobooks, you might see if you can get a library card for a library in a nearby city. I pay about $35 per year for mine, but the selection is 10 times better than my small local library, so if the local doesn't have something, the city library usually does. I go in to town a couple of times per month to borrow physical books and audibook CDs, but I can download the ebooks and digital audiobooks from home.
