on March 14, 2012
Genre: Adult, Graphic Novel, Fantasy, Sci-Fi
Length: 48 pages
Recommended ages: 16+
Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepository
Literary Awards:
Harvey Awards for Best Single Issue or Story (2013)
Synopsis:
Star Wars-style action collides with Game of Thrones-esque drama in this original sci-fi/fantasy epic for mature readers, as new parents Marko and Alana risk everything to raise their child amidst a neverending galactic war.
My Thoughts:
This graphic novel has been the most recommended by just about everyone for years. I snatched it up from Kindle on Free Comic Book Day and wow, I absolutely get the hype now.
We start out with Alana and Marko giving actual birth to their child, with explicit graphic flashbacks to what led to that pregnancy, and then we realize they are in the middle of some great big war when the door is kicked down seconds later.
These new parents must fight and survive to give their child the life they want for her.
The characters in this book are of a mythological nature, which is pretty unique, but it seems like there is a lot of prejudice between species. I really enjoyed the inclusion of taboo subjects like sex, birth, and breastfeeding.
I'll definitely be continuing this asap!
