My Thoughts:
This is probably the cutest book ever. I couldn't stop saying how adorable it was while reading it to my daughter. The illustrations are gorgeous, the animals are adorable, and the rhymes are very fun!

I think my favorite feature of this book was the map. It was really fun tracking each number and each animal critter through the progression of the story. It made it that much more interactive and we love a story that allows us to do a little more than just read.

The illustrations! Dear me, I just found my new favorite illustrator! I love art and always enjoy picture books but sometimes the art is so exceptional I just have to own the book. This is one of those books. This is definitely going on our wishlist. It will be a great help with teaching my daughter her numbers.

It's not just the illustrations or the map that are so great, either! The story, told in rhyme, is just as wonderful. We start out with our first critter - a gray fox - who is at home reading by himself when he decides his day would be even lovelier with a friend. She is joined by a second critter and they make pancakes together. Then they go and meet a third friend, and a fourth, and on and on, doing all new activities as the day passes until they are 12 friends on their way home as it gets dark.

There are subtle messages about loneliness and friendship within this book and the adventures highlight the fun of counting. I would definitely recommend this to any child or parent looking for a cute and fun read or something to teach numbers with.

Many, many thanks to Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books, and Netgalley for allowing me to read this delightful picture book to my daughter in exchange for an honest review!
